AHA Moments with Susan : ) 2

The SECOND AHA: LIVE LIFE ABOVE THE LINE
If you are willing to learn instead of blame, life will go more smoothly.

Whenever something doesn't go as expected, most of us tend to 'blame' someone else for what went wrong. In doing so, we lose a tremendous learning opportunity. We make progress by learning from mistakes.
When we blame someone, it gives that person power over the situation. For example, "If John had done what he agreed to do, then this would have never happened." That may be true. However, this statement gives John the power over the situation, and we usually learn very little from the experience.
If we avoid the tray of laying blame, we sometimes tend to justify what happened, "I would have gotten the job done except that I have traveled all night yesterday and I was too tired to focus on the project today." This is just another form of blame. Instead of blaming a person, we blame circumstances. Again, no matter how reasonable the justification, we lose an opportunity to optimally learn from the situation.++

If we get beyond blaming and justifying, there is another level of sub-optimal learning. That is shame--beating yourself up; "I did the dumbest thing!" Instead of blaming another person or circumstance, we blame ourselves. This too reduces the opportunity for learning.

Where, then, is the optimal place to view life experiences?
From the point of personal responsiblity---from above the line.

++I love this quote from Will Bowen: "Your complaints may seem fully justified, but realize that whenever you complain, you are placing your order for more of the same." http://www.acomplaintfreeworld.org

**Adapted and inspired from The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen. I believe that every self-help book out there can be applied to every part of our lives. This book specifically talks about finances. When I read this book, I could see how it can easily applied to achieving our health and wellness goals.

Susan's reflections on the above...
Most of here do not live with a family who want to embrace this new lifestyle. In fact, this is so new to many of us. Do not expect others who are not working on this change to support you. Do not blame them...do not criticize their choices. You have now just come to this ....do this for YOU! : )

Pace yourself and focus....You are in this for life....Take a few baby steps every day..like simply start with adding GREENS to your existing diet...You will be amazed at how the cravings go away when you get enough Greens. I love Green Smoothies...that is no secret!
Every raw bite brings you closer to the healthy, strong body you so deserve!

Watch what you say to (and about) yourself,
the loudest and most influential voice you hear is your own.
People with a positive inner dialogue and optimistic outlook
are more successful than equally talented people
with a negative dialogue and pessimistic outlook toward life.

and you'll change your results.
